Cancer patients need to know that their surgeon understands cancer and all treatment options, and has the technical expertise for the - complex- procedures they will be performing. This article in CancerWorld Magazine (4th June 2021, by Marc Beishon) features an interview of Professor Lynda Wyld, BRESO Executive Committee member, who reports on the importance and need for certification in ensuring the best possible treatment across countries. Noting ''there isn’t such a person as a cancer surgeon in most countries in Europe'', that's why we need harmonisation of education for our patients''. “The aim… with BRESO is to embed a widespread pathway to being a certified breast cancer surgeon rather than it being an adjunct to general surgery”.
