Description

Description of the training programme:

Theorical knowledge in basic Breast Radiology:

  • basic principles of mammography, differential diagnosis of mass lesions, basic principles and use of breast ultrasonography, basic principles of breast MRI.
  • In-depth knowledge of Breast Surgery: Management of benign disease (wide local excision), Management of primary breast cancer (breast-conserving surgery, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, complete axillary dissection).
  • Theorical knowledge in basic Breast Oncology: chemotherapy protocols, multidisciplinary pre- and post- surgical case management meetings, palliative treatment.
  • Theorical knowledge in basic Breast Radiation Therapy: principles of radiotherapy, dose-volume parameters, breast radiotherapy techniques (standard set-ups, IORT, brachytherapy).
  • Attendance at a minimum of 1 international breast congress and involvement in Breast Cancer Research

Position held by the fellow during the traineeship: During the first year of traineeship, a position of Resident and during the second year of traineeship, a position of Consultant.

The training consist of: an active training

Legal requirements: the fellow must independently take contact with our Institution because the requirements may vary depending on his/her role (i.e. resident, consultant ecc..), nationality, and his/her personal insurance status.

Maximum number of fellows in the Unit: 1

Optimal duration of the fellowship: 2 years

Open to both national and international candidates; We are open to offer fellowships to additional external national and foreign candidates; however the fellowship must be paid by the sending institution

Ideal candidate: A fellow in his/her last year of General Surgery Residency with a special interest in breast cancer research
