Description

Description of the training programme: Guy's & St. Thomas's NHS Foundation centre is one of the premier academic university hospitals and tertiary referral centre, in London. It has a comprehensive breast unit, recognised by the European cancer centres, with one of the highest immediate breast reconstruction rates in the U.K. The unit offers all levels of oncoplastic breast surgery and autologous breast reconstructions. It is involved in cutting edge research using several novel techniques to improve surgical outcomes. The unit runs weekly multi-disciplinary oncoplastic breast clinics and is home to the regional genetics centre where we conduct monthly multi-disciplinary Hereditary Breast Cancer clinics. We also treat over 100 screen-detected cases annually.

Position held by the fellow during the traineeship: A position between resident and consultant

The training consist of: Deanery Specialist Training for trainees wiching to pursue a carrer in breast surgery. Work place based assessments, case based discussion, direct observation of procedure skills, clinical examination skills assessment. Log book review and regular review of competence progression.

Legal requirements: GMC registration and licence to practice

Maximum number of fellows in the Unit: 1-2

Optimal duration of the fellowship: based on availability possibly for one to two years

Open to both national and international candidates 

Ideal candidate: Senior trainees that have a good level of experience in breast surgery and a willingness to participate in audits and research with the aim to publish
