Description

Description of the training programme: The BRESO training programme will consist of a “core” breast surgical oncology rotation, including attendance to surgical theatres, triple assessment clinics for symptomatic patients, pre- and post-operative results clinics, oncoplastic/reconstruction clinics, breast cancer follow-up clinics and MDT meetings. In addition to the above, the trainee will be able to choose between optional modules such as primary endocrine treatment, advanced breast cancer and familial cancer according to his interests/training needs. The following non-surgical rotations will also from part of the training programme:

  • Radiology: breast imaging and interventional procedures (biopsies, mammotomes, etc.)
  • Pathology: specimen preparation and dissection; case discussion/sign-off
  • Oncology: new patient and follow-up clinics; metastatic cancer, radiotherapy
  • Research: participation in the Unit’s research activity

Position held by the fellow during the traineeship: A position between resident and consultant

Legal requirements: Appropriate UK visa and GMC full registration with license to practice

Maximum number of fellows in the Unit: 1

Optimal duration of the fellowship: 1-3 months or 6-12 months

Open to both national and international candidates

Ideal candidate: The ideal candidate will have already completed his speciality training in General Surgery or be within the last 2 years of training (4-5 years of surgical experience). We welcome candidates with a strong research interest.
